Riley's Birthday Party

We had some friends over to celebrate Riley's birthday. Riley allowed anyone to hold her, but didn't really play with the kids that much. I think that she was a little overwhelmed by all the kids running around in her house and backyard and playing with her toys. Sometimes, she just went and played with her toys alone. At one point, I saw her stand behind a chair that was in the family room and watch people from there. But she did have fun. The food was great (pulled pork sandwiches on Golden Corral roles, grilled chicken, shrimp, and vegetable kabobs and some other sides) and the weather was as good as we could have asked for (yesterday, we thought it would be cold and rainy, but it was low 70's and the rain held off and it wasn't even that humid).

Becca made some awesome cupcakes. She made chocolate cupcakes with mini-chocolate chips from scratch and decorated them. I didn't expect her to let me help her, but she frosted and had me do the rest. It was pretty fun if you call standing for an hour putting 56 marshmallow noses, 112 mini-marshmallow eyes, 112 gum ears, and 224 icing dots on the cupcakes fun. They turned out really great.

Of course, the main reason to have a one-year-old party is to see what happens when you give them cake (or in this case, a cupcake). We took Riley outside in her high chair and stripped her shirt off and let her have it. Unfortunetely, she turned the cupcake upside down, so she really didn't get that messy with the pink icing. She ate a couple of bites of the chocolate cupcake and even fed me a bite, then was more interested in watching bubbles and kids.

In the morning, we dressed Riley in a grass skirt and coconut bra (she wore regular clothes for the party) for a photo-op.

Great party guys and great food! We had a fun time. Happy birthday Riley! I personally liked playing with the hula hoops, although I think I was out-done by Will and Drew.

I wish we could have been there. It sounds like you put on quite a party. Awesome cupcakes! The gum ears look like a lot of work. I'm glad you used a cupcake tree, the only true way to fashion your cupcake creativity. Thanks for posting the coconut bra and grass skirt picture. Love it!
