My sister and her family are visiting for a long weekend. It also helps us have a staycation, seeing all the sites one more time (or for the first time) before we move (more on that in a few days). Riley adores her cousin, Camden, who is 6. She mimics him, sits next to him, laughs at him, chases him, gets chased by him, squeals, screams, and likes to be carried by him. It took a little while for her to call him Camden instead of Cole, another of her boy cousins (almost 4). Yesterday, all day, she said, "Parker, 'morrow".
Today, we headed to San Antonio. It was Paul's first visit to Texas, so one must have the obligatory visit to the Alamo so it can be remembered. Camden liked it because it had a lot of coins, swords, guns, and was a big "fort". Of all my visits to the Alamo, the weather was the nicest for this one - low 80's and relatively dry. We also went on the Riverwalk boats. Our guide/driver was pretty good.
We headed over to HemisFair Park (home of the 1968 world's fair). We decided not to go up the Tower of Americas, but there were some cool cascading waterfalls as well as a place to play in the water. Parker loved getting wet.
To wrap it up, we headed back to Austin and headed to Chuy's (Tex-Mex). I got my regular grilled steak burrito with Hatch green chile sauce. I think that the Haines enjoyed a good Mexican meal, as there aren't any good Mexican restaurants near them for some reason.
Tomorrow, we'll see Austin. On Saturday's slate, we have ESPN Gameday (Paul and I), BBQ in Lockhart (the whole group), tailgating, and #1 Texas vs. #11 Missouri (Paul and I). One of the biggest reasons for this trip was because one of the items on Paul's bucket list is a Big 12 football experience. Texas does not dissappoint. Big, loud, Texan.
