In addition to crawling, Asher has learned a couple of new tricks in the last month. He can move from his hands and knees into a sitting position. He can click with his tongue. He learned how to pull himself up onto his knees, and more recently, onto his feet.
But his most adorable accomplishment just happened in the last couple of days. Asher learned his first word! Not Mommy or Daddy, or even bottle or ball. Nope. This kid says "uh-oh" like a pro! At first he was just saying it while making other babbling noises. but a day or two later he started using it in context. I know you're probably thinking that I'm just hearing what I want to hear, or I'm a typical parent thinking my kid is extra gifted. So I will give you examples.
When he dropped the teething biscuit he was chewing on, he said "uh-oh." He was pushing Riley's doll stroller around the room and said "uh-oh" when it tipped over. And when he dropped the toy that was keeping him occupied in the grocery cart...that's right..."uh-oh." See? Adorable AND smart!
Another recent development, this one much less encouraged, is that Asher has turned into a momma's boy. The infamous separation anxiety has a firm hold on this boy, and he cries when anyone besides Mom or Dad hold him. He's even been known to get a quivering bottom lip when someone at church or the grocery store pays attention to him. It's not so bad for his parents, but it does make us feel guilty about leaving him with a babysitter. In those cases, we feel more sorry for the sitter than the baby.
Aside from that, he is cuter than ever, and more fun every day. With the help of a few toys and some space to crawl, he can entertain himself for an impressive amount of time. And when he isn't entertaining himself, his big sister is often happy to help out.
By the way, I am determined to cut his hair soon, so by next month those little wispies above his ears will be gone. Although now that they are so long that they curl just a little, I'll admit they remind me a little of my Dad.

I'm confused, he's nine months. Your title says 8.
Such a cute guy! I love his chubby cheeks. I totally have your back with the "uh-oh." Claire just started "ah-duh" (all done), although she is a whole month older. So way to go Asher.
How excited are you for Jess to move here?! I can't wait!
He is just so adorably cute! You seriously have the cutest kids ever!
Adeptness (is that a word?) with language must run in your family. I remember Riley having a very advanced vocabulary for her age. You guys must talk your kids a lot. :)
We don't have to talk to Asher much - Riley will talk his ear off.
I love this age of kids - and it's fun to see what you post about Asher because then it gives me a preview of what's on deck for Simon as he catches up.
Of course, I can't agree with Farrah about your kids being the cutest ever, but they are pretty darn cute.
