Tyson's foster mother said that he liked seaweed, so we bought some little nori sheets (a smaller version of what they use to wrap sushi rolls). It's kind of like seaweed tissue paper and it dissolves and makes a big mess when eaten by a baby. The other night we had some rice with dinner, and since it was long grain American rice (read: fluffly, not sticky), it was hard for him to grab and eat. So, I took a nori sheet and spread some rice and rolled it up. When he saw it, he just about jumped out of his chair reaching for it. I cut it into pieces and he couldn't shovel them in his mouth fast enough. I then just let him take a bite and he tried to pull my whole hand in so he could have a whole one (about 2" long). He ate 5 of them that night, just because I got tired of making them for him and Becca doesn't like the smell of warmed seaweed.
We had some leftover rice, so I decided to make a batch of them for him to snack on today. It's such a great little rice delivery package. Actually, I kind of like them too - the seaweed adds just a little saltiness from the sea to the rice. But, I also like sushi. I guess Tyson and I will share that as he grows - we can go get sushi together. I just wanted to brag about how great a dad I am because I made my Asian son some nori rice rolls.
