Sushi Rolls

I've been wanting to try making sushi since we brought home some small nori from Korea and made mini rice rolls for Tyson (which he loves). We didn't want to try using sushi grade fish the first time, so we made some with crab (actually krab, which I call "crab with a k"), and some with tuna salad. We added cucumber, avocado, carrots, green onions, and lettuce. On a few, we added Srirachi to add some spice. We made the sushi rice with sticky rice, vinegar, sugar, and salt. I always thought that the filling ingredients made the taste, but it really is the rice. We borrowed one mat from a neighbor and found one while out today for $3. We made 6 rolls with 4 cups of rice, but ended up only eating about half of them before we were all stuffed. Next time, we'll try a few more ingredients and maybe try putting the rice on the outside to make even prettier.

We bought some trainer chopsticks for the kids in Korea and they love when we let them practice. All of them are actually pretty good at it and even Tyson picked up a piece of sushi. We were surprised with how much they loved the food (Asher's always a little more cautious), but they always want nori when we give some to Tyson. Perhaps they have acquired the taste. Of course, they helped make it, and kids usually like food better if they had a hand in preparation.
