One day the kids got it in their heads that they wanted to go hiking. I promised them we'd go for a hike as soon as the weather cooled a little. They continued to bug me about it until we sat down, looked at the weather forecast, and picked a day.
Scot had a great idea for a short hike to a fun destination. So yesterday was dubbed "Adventure Day." We drove about 25 minutes to Dinosaur Ridge. This National Landmark preserves tracks of dinosaurs that were discovered in 1937.
The tracks are only about a mile from the visitor center and parking lot, and made for a perfect adventure for our three little ones of varying abilities and endurance levels.
The kids enjoyed comparing the prints to their own hands, making rubbings of some of the accessible prints, and imagining what life would be like if they were dinosaurs.
Some were possibly more excited by the snacks I packed, and the accomplishment of learning to drink from a Camelback.
There was more to see, including fossils encased in sandstone on the other side of the ridge. That would have been too much for my little hikers, but we'll definitely be heading back when their legs are longer.
