We were fortunate to move onto another street that does a block party each summer. The games and traditions were different, but the kids still had a blast. Everyone wore name tags, so it was a great way for me and Scot to get to know neighbors we've only waved to from the front yard.
Each year they arrange for a fire truck to come. The firemen joined us for dinner, while the kids had fun exploring their truck.
Riley and Asher lined up with all the bigger kids for a game involving a stick of gum and whipped cream on a plate. Each plate held a stick of gum covered in spray whipped cream. Each kid had to lay on the grass and put their hands at their sides. When given the signal, they had to eat through the whipped cream to get to the gum, chew it up, and blow a bubble. These two rarely have gum, so that part was a treat. But they certainly don't know how to blow bubbles. But they still had a lot of fun participating.
We're all looking forward to celebrating summer with our neighbors again next year.
