Carolina Beach

The first weekend Becca was visiting North Carolina, we headed to the beach. We went to Carolina Beach. Becca has seen the Atlantic ocean during our honeymoon, but has never been in the water from the coast. She has only been in the Pacific, where the water is usually much cooler (65-70 degrees) while the Atlantic (at least in the Carolinas and Florida) has much warmer water (85 degrees) due to the gulf stream current.

When we got there, a storm was blowing off shore, so the waves were pretty intense and the cross current was strong. Only my brother-in-law and I went in the water, so Becca has still not felt a warm ocean. The best part was watching people that had no clue how to handle the waves give it a try. There was a guy in jorts (jean shorts) that looked like Earl Hickey's brother who was absolutely hilarious to watch. Let's just say that his attempt to dive under the wave was a little premature and he drove his head into the beach and then the wave crashed on top of him.

I hear the Pacific is cooler water. Someday we will have to experience the warm water of the Atlantic. Hey, how about you guys move to NC and we'll go to Carolina Beach when we visit?
