Riley sat still for a record amount of time while taking our bear photos this month. But just because she wasn't trying to lunge of the chair didn't mean that she had any interest in leaving the bear alone. What is this compulsion that babies have to stick EVERYTHING in their mouths? She even gnaws on the edge of the couch occasionally while she's cruising. One of her favorites to chew on is the small plastic accordion file I keep coupons in. I'm sure it's not the cleanest thing, but I have to pick my battles, and I'd prefer to fight her over things she picks up off the floor.
This last month she has started to show preferences for different foods. She will still eat almost anything, but when given a choice she usually prefers veggies over fruit, and will always eat the carrots last. While sharing our pizza crust with her at Costco on Monday night we discovered that she can drink from a straw.
Of all the suggestions, I took the easiest route for weighing Riley this month. We went to Bed, Bath & Beyond and weighed me and then both of us on 6 different scales. Why so many? Because each of them gave us a different result. So to the person who suggested it was time for me to buy one of my own, I ask "Why spend fifty or so bucks for a piece of equipment that you don't really trust?" The range for Riley's weight on these scales, including her clothes, was anywhere between 14 and 19 pounds. Keep in mind that she was just shy of 16 pounds over a month ago. So off we went to use our lightweight stroller and the trusty Petsmart dog scale. I'm just going to assume this is her real weight. It may be a little high, but close enough. So adjusted for the weight of her clothes and diaper (yes, I'm trying to be as exact as possible) Riley weighs 17 pounds, 7 ounces, and is 28 inches long.
Thanks to all of you who gave suggestions on weighing her. Leesa, when you have a baby of your own you will understand why I didn't want to put her on the same scale that measures raw meat. Suzanne and Alicia, our grocery store just has the hanging produce scales and I was afraid that Riley would either fall out, break it, or try to suck on it. (Given the cleanliness of our HEB, the last scenario would probably be the worst.) And Emily, I really did consider the post office, but every time I drove by the parking lot was pretty full. But after our less-than-confidence-inspiring experience with people scales, I think we'll be heading to Petsmart again next month.

I can't believe how big she looks! She's so adorable. And I love that Petsmart is now your regular place to weigh her. It cracks me up.
What a perfect Valentines photo and such a pretty smile!
Well you would obviously sanitize it first. Those Petsmart scales are pretty accurate if you can get the object to hold still, so I'm glad you're sticking with that.
I apparently missed the entry for the suggestion box for Riley's weighing in, but before I read how you went about it, my first thought was PetSmart. Glad you thought of it too. She's got some weight to put on those skinny long legs, doesn't she.
