A for Effort

I had an early morning appointment on Tuesday, so Scot went in to work late so he could watch Riley. When I got home about 9:00 I hoped that he got Riley dressed. I was shocked when I walked in the door and Riley ran over to me, fully dressed, with pigtails in her hair.

They weren't great pigtails, and he didn't pull up all the longer hair in front that gets mixed in with her bangs. But honestly, I don't think I did any better the first time I did them in Riley's hair. The girl won't sit still for anything, and sometimes will shake her head back and forth while I'm trying to make a straight part, just because she knows it drives me crazy. I don't know if she gave Scot a hard time like that or not. But either way, I'm impressed that Scot even tried.

And while I'm on the subject, I thought I'd include another kudos to Scot. He is working so diligently lately to get his research completed and his dissertation written so he'll be able to graduate with his PhD in December. It hasn't been an easy road, and it's required a lot of self-motivation. But his is still on track to finish this semester.

As if that weren't enough to keep him busy, he has also been putting a lot of energy into finding a job. Several months ago Scot learned of a company that does research he is interested in AND is located in a part of the country that we would be very happy to live in. So far he has done a great job of selling himself to the company, and we've got our fingers crossed.

I am so grateful to have a husband who is so intelligent and motivated and hard-working. He does more to help me here at home than I probably should expect of him, and he is a fantastic, devoted father to Riley. She and I are both very blessed to have him.

"A for Effort" - effort is definitely the key word for a man trying to fix his daughter's hair, let alone make it look good. I have watched Jeana a lot and it wasn't until recently that I learned that if you put the elastic on the pony tail from the top down instead of bottom up, you have a much better looking pony tail.

Riley is such a doll! I love that she has so much thick dark hair. It makes her look so much older! Good luck with the job search. That is such a crazy process.
