The whole family had a lot of fun celebrating Riley's birthday a day early. We made her favorites for breakfast: fruit smoothies and scrambled eggs. Scot and I were eager to have her open her first gift, (in a Rod Roddy voice) a new scooter!, so she could get some cruising in before we were on to other activities.

After some playtime we were off to Old Town for a pizza and salad buffet. It was the perfect lunch for Riley: all-she-could-eat pizza and olives, pickles, carrots, cherry tomatoes, and goldfish crackers from the salad bar. We took a short walk down to our favorite chocolate shop before heading home.
Scot and I both grew up with the tradition that you got to choose your birthday dinner, so we are going to continue that with our kids. When I asked her a couple of weeks ago what she would like, her only answer was "cabbage." Of course, this was a day after our meal of corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes on St. Patrick's Day. A couple of days later she asked me to sing "My Favorite Things" when I was putting her to bed. After I sang it I suggested that she could have schnitzel with noodles for her birthday dinner and she was very excited about that idea. I learned from Wikipedia that schnitzel is "a traditional Austrian dish consisting of a thin slice of meat coated in breadcrumbs and fried." Instead of veal or pork, we made our favorite Chicken Parm recipe and linguine. Riley didn't know the difference, and we all enjoyed it better than cabbage!

The birthday cake is a smaller version of a picture that Riley has been enchanted with in a Disney Princess book.

Happy third birthday, sweet girl! You are beautiful on the outside and the inside. You are smart and kind and silly and wonderful. You amaze us everyday and we are so blessed to be your Mom and Dad.

Wow, great job on the cake Becca. I imagine that's just what it looks like in the book. The three candles on top are perfect. :) Happy birthday big girl!
I can't believe how big she is! Remember when she was just so teeny tiny? Gosh... Good job on the cake, too. Did you ever post pics of Asher's cake?
Rebecca,
I just found the email you sent to tell us about Riley being born and you and Scot being selected as birth parents. Hard to believe it's been 3 years! I decided to check out your blog and it was perfect timing. Send me your personal email address, I would love to catch up with you. Jennifer Scott (SCIREX/ PRG)
