Sharon, my new sister-in-law, is in beauty school, so she had a friend there that morning to do hair. Kim got an earful about our family, Riley's allergies, our drive to Utah, and plenty more. And in spite of the constant chatter, she decided that in twenty-something years, Riley should marry her son, who is the same age.
My 5-year-old nephew, Cole, was the ring-bearer, and he took his duty even more seriously than Riley.
They were so adorable walking down the aisle together.
When we practiced before the ceremony I told Riley to just throw a small handful of petals each time, so she didn't run out before she got to the front. She got past half the chairs and that's exactly what happened. Unfortunately we hadn't rehearsed what to do in case of this emergency, so Riley came up with a plan of her own. When she realized the basket was empty, she turned around and was about to pick up some of the previously tossed petals. The first bridesmaid and groomsman caught up with her about that same time and urged her to the front. In the meantime, Cole didn't know why Riley stopped, but he knew what was expected of him, so he followed through exactly as he had been instructed, and was waiting patiently up front.
Scot packed plenty of snacks for Asher to keep him quiet. Fortunately the "big guns" weren't needed. There's no way their white shirts would have stayed clean if Scot was forced to pull out the Cheetos.
The ceremony was simple and the bride was gorgeous. But my eyes were on the most beautiful member of the wedding party the whole time.
My Dad's presence was definitely missed, so between the ceremony and the reception, most of us headed to the cemetery.
