We left for Korea the day after Christmas. We stayed the night at Becca's sister's house (where the kids stayed for the week) and headed to the airport around 4:30am. After a flight to San Francisco and our trans-Pacific flight, we arrived in Seoul on Tuesday around 5pm (crossing over the international date line does that to you). Someone from the Korean agency picked us up and took us to the guest house (also their offices, meeting rooms, doctor's office, ...). There were two other couples picking up kids and three families
visiting Korea who had adopted sons about 16-17 years ago. It was nice to talk with them in the common area and share tips and advice.
Wednesday, we met Tyson for the first time at 10am. Afterwards, we took the subway system (by far one of the most efficient, clean, easy-to-use, extensive subways I've been on) to one of the palaces. We headed to a market and tried some of the local fare (read street food) while perusing for souvenirs. We returned and went to the Seoul temple, which was a fun experience. It was about a half mile walk from our accommodations.
During our visit with Tyson, his foster mother and father, and the case worker, we learned that we would see him again on Thursday at 3 and also visit with the President of the agency and have lunch with her. We were surprised since we thought that Wednesday would be it and then we would get him as we headed to the airport. We went to an 8 story department/grocery store that morning and then a huge market that evening.
Friday was time to pack-up, run a few errands (get some stuff we wanted for our kids) and then we received Tyson and immediately left for the airport. Leaving at 4:30pm got us back home about 8pm the same day (international date line helps you this way, although it was like staying up for 32 hours).
