Camping with Friends

We did another overnight camping trip last weekend, and this time some good friends joined us for dinner. They have daughters the same ages as Riley and Asher, plus a nearly-5-year-old and a newborn.
We were all so happy to have friends along with us to share in the fun. But as you can see from these photos, Riley particularly enjoyed spending time with them.
Between us we ate turkey burgers, spare ribs, hot dogs, veggie kabobs, fresh melon, Doritos, and a ton of pickles! And Jamie was kind enough to make plenty of Dutch Oven peach crisp for the group. What a meal!
As I was getting photos together for this post, I noticed I have so many more of Asher than of Riley. That has often been the case lately. Riley is always busy going, exploring, playing and doing, so it's much easier to get shots of Asher, who hangs out nearby, and doesn't move nearly as quickly.
The kids didn't get nearly enough sleep that day, so they slept through the night better than they ever have on a camping trip. The next morning Asher collected pine cones and Riley hit things with sticks while Scot and I broke camp.
After breakfast and a little rock climbing, we headed home for showers and then shopping. We bought ourselves a queen-sized air mattress! Next on the list is a bigger tent so there is room for Asher and Riley to share the full-size mattress we've been using.

*Thanks to Jamie for the first four photos. You're so talented!

how fun! What are those things you guys are wearing over your clothes? Some sort of heat trapping device? In August? Crazy.

That picture of Asher making the scrunchy smile face is the cutest thing I've ever seen! Seriously, you could charge people to look at that if they're having a bad day, it's so cute.
